Some outcomes from anti-violence programs can be measured. Others can’t
In response to Todd Zinser’s op-ed on Cincinnati’s anti-violence programs, it is acknowledged that public awareness of their impact needs improvement. The Price Hill Safety CAT Summer Youth Program, funded by Keep Cincinnati Beautiful and the city, has seen measurable efforts, including cleaning up area debris and mentoring children affected by gun violence over its 15-year existence. Testimonials from participants affirm the program’s positive influence. Key initiatives like Rec @ Nite and Saturday Hoops keep youth engaged and away from violence. While measuring reduced gun violence directly is difficult, the programs foster safer neighborhoods and positively transform young lives. Advocacy for better publicizing such efforts is encouraged.
