Local leaders fight against gun violence at ’emergency’ meeting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — City leaders, activists, and law enforcement convened for a community meeting to address crime, marking the second “Stop the Violence” session led by Kent County Commissioner Robert Womack. Held at Uptown Church, the meeting aimed to engage the younger generation and was supported by a diverse panel, which included representatives from various community organizations and law enforcement.

Corey Penn, who lost his son to gun violence, emphasized the need for community unity. The panel highlighted that instilling positive visions in youth can help guide them toward better paths. Womack also introduced “Partners in Peace,” a platform designed to promote youth engagement in community activities while discussing initiatives to educate the community on their rights in police interactions.
