‘I feel like everybody has one’ | Cincinnati teens speak out about how easy it is to access guns

A recent Urban League study highlights concerning trends in gun violence among Cincinnati teens, revealing that 61% of surveyed Black youth aged 12-20 have held a gun, while 48% have witnessed a shooting. Three local teens shared their personal experiences during a roundtable discussion, emphasizing the need for more effective solutions to the crisis. They expressed that acquiring firearms is alarmingly easy, with one teen stating, “I feel like everybody has one.” The Director of Community Partnering Center noted the importance of providing safe spaces for youth to address these issues. The teens advocated for stricter gun laws and suggested activities to decrease curiosity about firearms. The Urban League is continuing discussions to mitigate youth gun violence through programs at local high schools.
