**A Year After Its Launch, Philadelphia’s Crime Scene Cleanup Program Looks to Expand**

Philadelphia’s crime scene cleanup program, aimed at relieving residents of the traumatic task of cleaning up after shootings, has made significant strides since its initiation. Launched in November 2023, the program has since cleaned 141 crime scenes, providing much-needed assistance particularly in the wake of violent incidents.

Originally limited to public spaces, the program now makes exceptions to clean bloodstained areas such as gates and porches, expanding its reach to various police districts across the city. As the city aims for a complete rollout by December 2025, officials report a positive community response, highlighting the emotional relief for residents not having to undertake this gruesome task themselves.

The program has faced challenges, including the need for thorough officer training, but adjustments have been made to respond more flexibly to different crime scene sizes, ensuring that cleanup is prompt and sensitive to victims’ needs.
