Third annual gun buyback scheduled for Aug. 9
The Archdiocese of Baltimore is set to hold its third annual gun buyback event on August 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westside Shopping Center, located at 2413 Frederick Ave. The primary aim of this initiative is to remove firearms from the streets while also promoting peace in the community, as articulated by Father Mike Murphy, the event organizer.
Last year’s buybacks collected over 600 guns, and Father Murphy hopes to surpass 300 this time. Individuals can turn in up to three operational guns for cash, with amounts varying based on the type of firearm. The event, which requires firearms to be unloaded and transported in vehicle trunks, will involve police support and will feature vendors along with the provision of free Narcan kits.
