Community speaks out against uptick in gun violence

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Community members are rallying after a string of shootings in West Dayton neighborhoods. The summer trend of gun violence is especially affecting Dayton youth, with 18 firearm homicides reported thus far in 2025. Activist Rickia Woods emphasized the need for concern regarding youth safety, noting that many juveniles are involved in these violent incidents.

With 46 minors arrested for firearm possession this year alone, the community has called for collaboration among various stakeholders to address the crisis. Educators, like Daj’za Demmings, highlighted the personal toll, noting the loss of students to gun violence and advocating for collective action involving the police, elected officials, and community members to find a solution.
