Bakersfield expected to continue working with Wendale Davis Foundation, CAPK to reduce gun violence

The city of Bakersfield plans to extend agreements with the Wendale Davis Foundation and the Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK) aimed at reducing gun violence. This follows a decline in group-related gun violence after a multi-year grant from the Board of State and Community Corrections amounting to $3,114,625 was awarded. The funding supports a public health approach through intervention, prevention, and mentoring for individuals at risk of gun violence. City officials are requesting the city council to approve an amendment that would increase compensation for both organizations and extend their agreements to June 30, 2026, indicating the success of the program in curbing gun violence in the area.
