AG Explains Gun and Gang Court in 13th Amendment
One of the proposed legislations in the Thirteenth Amendment is the establishment of a Gun and Gang Court, which aims to address gun violence and gang warfare more effectively. Attorney General Anthony Sylvestre explains that currently, such cases are managed within the magistrate’s court, where they often face delays due to the mixture of various case types, such as traffic and civil matters.
The specialized Gun and Gang Court is designed to expedite hearings by combining the powers of both magistrates and High Court judges, allowing for quicker resolution of cases. This approach is not unique to Belize, as specialized courts for different legal areas already exist in various countries.
