New grants open to help areas impacted by gun violence

As concerns about youth gun violence increase, Louisville leaders are launching efforts to intervene and prevent future incidents. Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) have introduced the Get Busy initiative, part of the Safe Louisville crime plan. This initiative aims to provide middle-school-aged youth in neighborhoods most affected by gun violence with new after-school and weekend activities for the 2025-26 school year.

The OVP is offering three grants of $116,000 to community groups addressing violence and promoting youth development. Proposals must include at least three community organizations and focus on mentorship while serving youth in the Russell, Park Hill/Algonquin, and Southside/Americana neighborhoods. Applications are currently open and close on August 20 at 11:59 p.m.
