What’s Behind the Decline in Pro-Gun Lawsuits?

After the 2022 Supreme Court ruling in Bruen, which reshaped the legal standards for gun laws, gun rights groups initially increased their lawsuits against firearm restrictions. However, the number of new lawsuits has drastically decreased, dropping from 34 in the first half of 2022 and 2023 to only 20 in 2024 and just seven so far in 2025. This slowdown is attributed to a natural calming of legal actions as groups become more selective in their litigation and pivot towards the appellate courts.

Despite the decline in lawsuits, groups like the Second Amendment Foundation continue to promote their efforts for fundraising, claiming ongoing legal advantages and the possibility of future victories.
