Thomasville leaders host gun safety event for local youth
Local leaders in Thomasville are organizing a gun safety event for youth to address rising gun violence in the community. Scheduled for Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at World Wide Ministries, the event will feature discussions on gun safety and emotional control.
Councilman Terry Scott, who started the “Think Before You React” program in 2018 after experiencing multiple shootings in his neighborhood, emphasizes the importance of encouraging young people to pause and think before reacting to potentially violent situations. Sheriff Tim Watkins will be present, distributing 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to attract families to learn about gun safety. A second backpack giveaway will take place the following weekend at Food Lion.
