What are the new gun laws in Florida? What to know about open carry, bump stocks, red flag

In Florida, concealed carry remains legal without permits or training. Recent changes allow Florida residents to buy guns and ammo during local emergencies and exempt law enforcement from waiting periods. A Hunting, Fishing, and Camping Sales Tax Holiday will be in effect from Sept. 8 to Dec. 31, 2025, eliminating sales tax on outdoor items, including firearms.

Open carry is generally prohibited but has exceptions for specific professions and activities. Individuals must be 21 or older to conceal carry, and there are several restricted areas where firearms cannot be carried. Firearm sales of bump stocks and certain ammunition types are banned. Florida’s red flag laws allow the temporary confiscation of firearms from individuals deemed a threat.
