Store that sold gun used in Oxford shooting wants lawsuit dismissed

The firearm store that sold the gun used in the Oxford High School shooting is urging the Michigan Court of Appeals to dismiss a liability lawsuit filed by the family of a shooting survivor. Acme Shooting Goods claims it is too distant from the crime to be liable, stating store employees had no way of knowing the handgun would be used in a mass shooting and argued that the sales did not indicate that it was a “straw sale” for the shooter’s father. In response, the family of survivor Elijah Mueller asserts that they can provide evidence showing the store acted negligently and failed to adhere to legal mandates. Legal expert Lekha Menon noted that such lawsuits against negligent gun dealers aim to hold them accountable and could set precedents for similar cases in the future.
