Former Berkeley High student faces new gun case
A former Berkeley High student, 20-year-old Romain Usher, has been charged with felony gun crimes after being detained in court this week. The charges stem from an incident in May when Usher appeared near the school with a concealed AR-15 style rifle in his waistband, which was reported to police after he posted a video on Instagram.
Additionally, during a search of his home, detectives discovered illegal firearms parts and a ghost gun. Usher admitted to owning some items but denied ownership of the rifle, although he acknowledged his DNA might be on it. He is charged with the manufacture or sale of a large-capacity magazine, possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, and unlawful firearm activity. He remains in custody awaiting arraignment.
