Gun groups seek to end National Firearms Act in wake of Trump bill
Gun rights groups and firearm industry leaders are launching a legal effort to dismantle the National Firearms Act (NFA) after President Trump signed legislation that eliminates excise taxes on suppressors and short-barreled firearms. Advocates are labeling the lawsuit as the “One Big Beautiful Lawsuit,” claiming that the remaining provisions of the NFA, such as registration mandates and transfer rules, are unconstitutional now that the tax has been reduced to zero.
Groups like the Gun Owners of America argue that the original justification for the law is void, making registration an unconstitutional burden. The Firearms Policy Coalition also plans a challenge, viewing the tax elimination as a crucial step towards fully dismantling the NFA. This legal push is expected to be the most significant challenge to the NFA in almost a century.
