Missouri court keeps McCloskey criminal records sealed, as they seek to get guns back
A Missouri appeals court has upheld a request to seal the criminal records of Mark and Patricia McCloskey, two St. Louis lawyers who pointed guns at protesters in June 2020. The ruling by a three-judge panel may allow Mark McCloskey to reclaim two firearms he had surrendered as part of a plea deal. After pleading guilty to misdemeanors in 2021 related to the incident during protests over George Floyd’s death, the couple was pardoned in August 2021. They filed for expungement, which was granted on June 5, 2024, restoring all rights restricted by their criminal record. Despite objections from prosecutors who consider them a public safety threat, the court upheld the expungement. Mark McCloskey has another pending suit to have the guns returned, paused during the expungement process.
