Senate pressured to end some firearm regulations and taxes in ‘big, beautiful bill’

Having won in the House with its demand that the so-called “big, beautiful bill” eliminate the tax on firearms suppressors, Second Amendment advocates are now pushing the Senate to eliminate the tax and registration requirement on short-barreled rifles.

The industry is moving swiftly to build support for including the Short Act in the tax and spending bill. On Tuesday, Second Amendment lobbyists were in the Senate advocating for their case. Erich Pratt, of Gun Owners of America, emphasized that restoring rights to law-abiding Americans is essential. This legislative effort, which Republicans hope to approve by July 4, could represent a significant advancement for firearm ownership rights, particularly if both the Short Act and the elimination of silencer taxes are included.
