Annual event raises awareness about gun violence
About 100 people came together in Downtown Racine on National Gun Violence Awareness Day to raise awareness about gun violence. Organized by Racine County and Voices of Black Mothers United, the event featured tables from various organizations providing information on gun violence and community safety. Attendees wore orange, a color symbolizing remembrance for victims of gun violence.
Nakeyda Haymer, a coordinator from Voices of Black Mothers United, expressed the emotional weight of the issue, sharing her personal loss to gun violence. Pastor Frank James II led a moment of silence for victims, urging community engagement to combat gun violence. The event included performances and activities for youth, reinforcing the community’s commitment to making a positive impact and fostering a safer environment for future generations.
