Stopping gun violence in Philadelphia
Today marks the eleventh anniversary of National Gun Violence Awareness Day, kicking off Wear Orange Weekend, part of National Gun Violence Awareness Month, aimed at tackling gun violence as a public health crisis. The health department’s Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention will publish blog posts throughout June discussing public health concepts and actions to mitigate violence in Philadelphia, which saw a significant decrease in gun violence in 2024.
Philadelphia’s collaborative approach encompasses various sectors, including mental health services and community organizations. The health department is hosting multiple events to raise awareness and promote community actions during June.
For further updates, join the blog series and partake in community events this month. Together, efforts can help reduce gun violence in Philadelphia.
