Rep. Crow proposes Equal Access to Justice Act for gun violence victims

Aurora Congressman Jason Crow has reintroduced the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act, which aims to enable survivors and families of gun violence victims to sue gun manufacturers and sellers for negligence. Crow argues that the current federal law, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), shields the gun industry from accountability, leaving victims without legal recourse. The proposed bill seeks to repeal the PLCAA and has garnered support from other representatives and senators, along with endorsements from various gun control organizations. Critics, including gun lobbyists, have opposed the bill, asserting that it could expose firearm businesses to unnecessary liability. Colorado has enacted similar legislation, although federal laws still largely protect the gun industry from litigation.
