Event at City Hall promotes healing, unity among young people affected by gun violence

An emotional gathering took place at City Hall on Wednesday evening, where city leaders aimed to promote healing, unity, and action among young people impacted by gun violence. The Mayor’s Office of Youth Engagement organized the event, encouraging youth to express themselves through singing, rapping, and spoken word art.

Shania Bennett, director of the Mayor’s Office of Youth Engagement, noted the importance of creative outlets for young people dealing with grief and emotional distress. Attendees paid tribute to local rapper LGP Qua, murdered on Mother’s Day, reflecting on the struggles faced by youth in the community. Non-profits were also highlighted as vital resources for mentorship and support. The event served as a reminder of the necessity to uplift and protect the youth amid ongoing violence.
