Ex-lifers, mothers who lost children to gun violence heal through stretching in SF
In San Francisco, a unique group of ex-lifers and mothers who have lost children to gun violence are finding healing through stretching sessions at the Stretch Lab in SoMA. Mattie Scott, who lost her son to gun violence, shares her experience as she participates in stretching to alleviate the emotional burdens she carries. Randy Nichols, an ex-lifer who served 31 years for murder, also participates, stating that working with the mothers helps bridge the gap between their experiences and years of trauma.
Together, they find solace and connection through the physical act of stretching, which serves as a therapeutic outlet without the need for words. The initiative is aimed at supporting each other in their shared healing journey, highlighting that often, “healers need healing too.”
