Gun Reform Groups Warn Trump Admin Settlement on Trigger Device ‘Paves the Way for Mass Violence’

The U.S. Department of Justice recently announced a settlement regarding “forced-reset triggers,” devices that increase the firing rate of semiautomatic rifles, effectively turning them into machine guns, according to gun violence prevention groups. The settlement permits Rare Breed Triggers to sell these devices, although they are restricted from designing them for use in pistols. This move has been condemned by various gun reform organizations, which argue it legalizes machine guns and threatens community safety. Kris Brown, president of Brady, called it a dangerous deal that undermines decades of gun safety policy. Vanessa Gonzalez from Giffords echoed concerns that the settlement places communities at risk. The settlement aligns with a directive from former President Donald Trump concerning Second Amendment rights.
