The Trump Admin Wants to Allow People to Carry Guns Without Permits in All 50 States

Since President Trump took office, he has pushed for “national reciprocity” legislation that would permit individuals to carry concealed firearms across state lines without permits. This policy is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate gun regulations, which critics argue leads to increased rates of gun violence. Data shows that states with stricter regulations experience significantly lower rates of firearm-related deaths and injuries compared to states that have implemented permitless carry laws. Specifically, states like Massachusetts and New Jersey have seen much lower gun death rates than states such as Mississippi, which has faced an increase in firearm homicides since adopting permitless carry. Opponents of national reciprocity warn that it undermines state laws and public safety by imposing lenient standards across the country, potentially placing untrained individuals in possession of firearms.
