Father of five pleads guilty to possessing submachine gun

A father of five, Glen Dempsey (42), has pleaded guilty to possessing a submachine gun found in a hidden compartment in his car in Dublin. Gardaí arrested Dempsey after discovering the Czech-made Skorpion firearm, silencer, and ammunition in a metal container in the boot of his car during a search at his home in St Cuthbert’s Meadows, Clondalkin, on May 15th last year. The pleas were entered at Dublin District Court, where he was informed that he would be sentenced in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on May 9th. Dempsey claimed he was under threat from a gang to hold the firearm for five or six months. The gun possession charge carries a minimum five-year sentence.
